A 36-YEAR-OLD Kadoma man was on Friday sentenced to a two-year jail term by a Harare magistrate for illegal possession of 11,4kg of unprocessed dagga.

Douglas Chibande of Etina Mine, Kadoma, will serve an 18-month prison term after magistrate Tilda Mazhande suspended six months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on November 14 this year, detectives from Braeside Police Station were on patrol at Mbare bus terminus and observed Chibande carrying a suspicious-looking bag.

They stopped him and indicated that they wanted to search the bag and Chibande voluntarily told the detectives that he had three buckets of dagga.

The detectives opened the bag and discovered three white plastic bags containing loose dagga weighing 11,4kg valued at $1 141, leading to Chibande’s arrest.
