Alton Mutsinzwa (40) was convicted on his own plea of guilty to the fraud charge, when he appeared before magistrate Josephine Sande who fined him $100 for the offence.

In mitigation, Mutsinzwa pleaded for forgiveness, saying he committed the offence because he was desperate for a top job within the company.

The court heard that on November 2 2015 Mutsinzwa got employed as a transport supervisor and at the beginning of this year, a transport manager’s post arose.

His managing director, Peter Kazingizi, approached him and asked to submit his academic qualifications for review, as the post required someone with five O-Level passes.

Mutsinzwa then forged his certificate, but Kazingizi became suspicious and immediately sent it to the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council for verification.

The certificate was found to be fictitious, leading to his arrest.

Francisca Mukumbiri appeared for the State.
