Freddy Dube was not asked to plead to two counts of murder when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Sheunesu Matova beside his hospital bed at the United Bulawayo Hospital on Wednesday. The magistrate remanded him to his heavily-guarded hospital bed to May 30.

On the first count, the court was told that between April 16 and 17, Dube teamed up with his alleged accomplices Never Mpofu who is already in remand and Thinkwell Moyo, still at large, and broke into Andile Ncube’s shop at Mucklenuck business centre in Inyathi, Matabeleland North province. While inside, they allegedly assaulted Ncube several times on the head, killing him. He stole cellphones, laptops, blankets and clothes before driving way.

Dube faces another charge of killing Bulawayo taxi driver Tinashe Hunyenyiwa after hiring him from the city centre purporting to be going to Emhlangeni suburb. The accused later allegedly diverted the car to Killarney where they attacked Hunyenyiwa on the head with an axe and stabbed him all over the body. He stole from the deceased cellphones, cash and the car.
