Trymore Chidhakwa (28) was illegally prospecting for gold together with Takudzwa Magoni (27) and Kumbulani Kadowa (29) when the shaft collapsed, killing him on the spot.
Acting Mashonaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm the death of one male adult who died in Mazowe while practising illegal mining in a disused shaft. The deceased was in the company of two other miners, who retrieved his body from the shaft before making a police report at Mazowe Police Station,” Masikati said.
The police urged miners to avoid going underground, particularly during the rainy season.
