FOUR Mbire men were yesterday fined $100 by a Guruve magistrate for helping themselves to a kudu which they found dead in a bush.
Givemore Kuzora (32), Dzimbanhete Zuva (70), Rinos Tachiona (42) and Philimon Chikumbo, all from Chitsungo, pleaded guilty before magistrate Shingirai Mutiro.
The quartet was fined $100 each, failure to pay would earn them 30 days in prison.
Prosecutor Albert Charewa told the court that on September 13 at Chimanyiwa under Chief Chitsungo in Mbire district, the quartet saw a dead kudu and removed its horns before taking the meat to their respective homes.
Game rangers who had received a tip-off to that effect, made a follow-up to each of the convicts’ homesteads and recovered 12,5kg of meat from Kuzora, 5,35kg from Zuva, 3,85kg from Tichaona and 5,35kg from Chikumbo.

The meat and the horns were forfeited to the State. The value of the kudu was US$3 000.
