INDUSTRIES that rely on radioactive materials face production cost increases after government yesterday gave the nod for the increases through Statutory Instrument 190 of 2020. The regulations are cited as Radiation Protection (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) (Amendment) Regulations, 2020 (No.1).
The industries that will be affected include fertiliser producers, mining industries and ceramics, water purification and water works.
A licence for fertiliser, coal, gas production is now pegged at $100 000; mining companies’ licences $150 000, scrap recycling, refractories, brickmaking, ceramics, water purification and water works now have to pay $70 000.
