Higher and Tertiary Education minister Stan Mudenge surprised all and sundry on Wednesday when he publicly admitted that he was technologically crippled, saying the laptop he obtaned under the government’s e-programme was gathering dust.
Mudenge made the stunning revelations at the Masvingo Polytechnic College’s 19th graduation ceremony where he was the guest of honour.
“Some of us are old and ageing. . . I do not know where to start when it comes to my laptop. I want to tell you that I and several ministers are challenged when it comes to the laptops,” said the distinguished academic, who holds a Doctorate in History.
Mudenge said he had engaged the assistance of an intern in his ministry to take him through the paces.
“I was surprised a student on attachment was able to operate a computer when I could not. “I have since instructed the student to teach me how to operate it and he said he will do so,” Mudenge said, to the surprise of the gathering.
Recently, all cabinet ministers were given laptop computers by Information Communication Technology (ICT) minister Nelson Chamisa as the country made strides in catching up with the changing technological trends and advancements in ICT.
