A former member of the Zimbabwe National Army was this week slapped with a 24-month jail term for stealing six goats from his neighbours.
Knowledge Dube (25) of Siabuwa in Binga was convicted on his own plea of guilty to stock-theft when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate Stephen Ndlovu on Monday.
The magistrate sentenced him to 24 months in jail, but suspended eight months on condition of good behaviour and that he pays the complainant, Junior Chivimbo, $120 restitution.
This left him to serve an effective 16-month custodial term.
On August 16 at 9am, Dube approached his younger brothers, Kuyandakwelezwa and Peter Mudenda, who were tilling the fields.
He instructed them to drive six goats belonging to Chivimbo to his goats’ pen and threatened to kill them if they snubbed the order.

Fearing for their lives, the pair complied and drove the goats home.
Dube later loaded them onto his car, took them to Chitekete Business Centre in Zhomba, Gokwe, where he sold them.
Chivimbo reported the matter to police, leading to Dube’s arrest.
