GWERU — Twenty-seven-year-old Givemore Ncube from the Chief Bunina area in Lower Gweru recently landed himself in trouble after he killed a wild cat at Lenton wildlife conservancy.
The incident occurred on May 16, but Ncube immediately fled his home following reports police were looking for him.
He was eventually arrested on October 12 and was on Friday sentenced to six months in prison for contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act.
In passing sentence, Gweru magistrate Jeslene Mashiri suspended one month for four years on condition of good behaviour.
An additional three months were suspended on condition he completes 105 hours of community service at Chisadza Primary School.
The remaining two months were also suspended on condition Ncube pays $500 restitution to the clerk of court before December 31.

Meanwhile, another Lower Gweru man was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for hunting and killing a warthog at the same wildlife conservancy.
The court heard Nkosiyentsha Mloyi (21) of Northampton Range Farm poached a warthog sometime in May.
Scouts at the conservancy tracked his footprints to his home where they recovered a bony horn. Michael Mhene prosecuted both cases.
