A-22-year-old Mutare woman in a polygamous marriage has been sentenced to 30 days in prison or alternatively $100 fine for sending an abusive and obscene text message using her mobile phone to her husband’s first wife.

Sekai Sanhewe (22) had an altercation with the plaintiff on January 15 this year. The court heard the infuriated Sanhewe later sent the abusive message using her mobile, an act described by the court as unlawful.

She was charged under section 55 of the Postal and Communication Act. The Act criminalises any form of abusive communication made through channels of communication that include mobile phones.

Sanhewe was convicted on her own plea of guilt by Mutare magistrate Fabian Feshete who warned her not to repeat the offence. Truman Joma prosecuted.
