BINGA — Wesley Siachami, a former MDC-T councillor in the Siabuwa area, has appeared in court facing a charge of pummelling his wife with a hammer following a domestic dispute.

Siachami (43) pleaded guilty to the domestic violence charge when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate Stephen Ndlovu on Tuesday charged with domestic violence.

He was slapped with a three-month jail term which was, however, later suspended on condition he performs 105 hours of community service at Malube Primary School.

The court heard on February 17 this year, Siachami, who was MDC-T councilor in Siabuwa for two terms ending in 2008, had a misunderstanding with his wife Salia Mudenda over an unspecified issue while at their matrimonial home.

In a fit of rage, Siachami grabbed a hammer and pounded her on the forehead.

The wife later made a report to the police, leading to Siachami’s arrest.
