The trial of Core Mining and Mineral Resources director Lovemore Kurotwi and former Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) chief executive officer Dominic Mubaiwa took a new twist on Tuesday after it emerged the identity of the complainant in the matter was unknown.
Kurotwi’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa made an application before High Court judge Justice Chinembiri Bhunu, requesting for further particulars from the State, arguing no complainant details were provided by the State as to whom it is alleged Kurotwi misrepresented to.
Mtetwa demanded that Mines and Mining Development minister Obert Mpofu be summoned as a State witness, arguing failure by the State to name him as the complainant rendered the State case defective.
Justice Bhunu is expected to give a determination on the application next Tuesday. According to deputy director of public prosecution Chris Mutangadura, Kurotwi and Mubaiwa are accused of prejudicing the State of $2 billion worth of investment after allegedly making false representations that led to the granting of a licence to Canadile Mining.
