A Chitungwiza man was yesterday fined $100 or three months in prison after forging Advanced Level results and using them to enrol in the Faculty of Industry at the National University of Science and Technology last year.
Tatenda Kugara of Manyame Park was convicted on his plea of guilty to forgery when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Shepherd Mjanja. However, the sentence was wholly suspended on condition he completes 105 hours of community service at Brad Primary School.
Kugara told the court that after dismally failing his “A” Level examinations he went to Gulf Complex in Harare, where someone made the fake results slip for him. But his parents were not even aware of it. Charges were that Kugara purported he sat for his examinations at St Francis Xavier in Kutama and came out with grade C in Mathematics, B in Physics and C in Chemistry.
After admission he attended lectures throughout the year.
However, the offence came to light on Friday last week after the school administration received a tip-off and investigated, leading to his arrest.
An inquiry was made with Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council and it was discovered that Kugara had an O (subsidiary pass) in Mathematics, E in Physics and O (subsidiary pass) in Chemistry.
