The Spanish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, Pilar Fuertes Ferragut, died in a car accident in Namibia on Monday afternoon while holidaying near Walvis Bay.

A Spanish Embassy official, Romée Fisher, in a statement said: “The Embassy of Spain wishes to inform you of the tragic passing away of HE (Her Excellency) Pilar Fuertes Ferragut, the Ambassador of Spain to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, in a car accident yesterday (Monday) afternoon.”

Fisher said a book of condolences was open until tomorrow at the embassy.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday paid his condolences on the passing-on of Ferragut.

While signing the book of condolences, at the Embassy of Spain in Harare, Tsvangirai described the late diplomat as “a loving person who was committed to peace and democracy”.
