Six people died on the spot and eight others were seriously injured when a bus they were travelling in was side-swiped by a haulage truck in Shangani along the Bulawayo-Harare Road yesterday.
Deputy National Traffic Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the accident which occurred at around 3pm at the 104 km peg.
“Six people died on the spot, eight were seriously injured and the other eight had minor injuries when a bus they were travelling in was side-swiped by a haulage truck,” Chakanza said.
“The Shangani Mine bus was travelling from Bulawayo towards Gweru with 22 passengers on board, and a haulage truck was travelling towards Bulawayo on the same road.
“The haulage truck encroached into the lane of the bus and it was side-swiped.”
Chakanza said the Shangani Mine bus was hit on the right side from the front to the rear.
