A commuter omnibus driver who allegedly kidnapped five Bulawayo women last week before he dumping them in Mbembesi, about 40km from the city, has been remanded in custody to August 8.
Casper Ndlovu was not asked to plead to kidnapping when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Victor Mpofu on Wednesday.
Charges against him are that on Monday last week at 6pm, the complainants Christine Chimbiro, Memory Murisa, Ntombiyesizwe Chimusaru, Beaula Matshetho and Josephine Nyikadzino boarded Ndlovu’s commuter omnibus which plies the City-Ntabazinduna-Mbembesi route intending to go to Fairbridge.
However, on the way, Ndlovu reportedly had a misunderstanding with the women over fares. When Ndlovu arrived at Fairbridge, he refused to stop and drop them.
Instead, he continued driving towards Ntabazinduna and only stopped in Mbembesi, where he allegedly ordered the women to disembark.
The women reported the matter to police, leading to Ndlovu’s arrest.
