GOKWE-KABUYUNI MP Costin Muguti and his MDC-T party colleague Shadreck Kana appeared in court on Tuesday charged with a public violence case that occurred in the constituency in the run-up to the March 2008 harmonised elections.

Both Muguti (38) and Kana (33) were not asked to plead to the charge when they appeared before Gokwe resident magistrate Shepherd Mjanja.
The pair, being represented by a lawyer from Chikere, Chidavanyika & Partners legal firm was remanded to October 29 on free bail.
It is alleged that on March 25 2008 at around 4pm, Zanu PF activists, who included Tobias Siyakhula, Give Siyambelebele and Davison Ncube, were attending a campaign rally addressed by Simuchembo ward 30 councillor Finos Sibanda at Zumba business centre in Gokwe.
It is the State case that Muguti, Kana and Nickson Pensele, who is still at large, acting in common purpose, allegedly went to the venue of the meeting.

On arrival they allegedly started singing political songs and chanting MDC-T party slogans while toyi-toying around the gathering. They allegedly continued for a while and later started throwing stones at the Zanu PF crowd.
It is the State case that Zanu PF supporters were forced to disperse before their intended time.
No one was injured during the incident and a report was made to the police, leading to the arrest of the two.
