BULAWAYO residents went for seven hours without water yesterday as council carried out maintenance work on the Insiza raw water pipeline, amid calls by mayor Thaba Moyo to use water sparingly. Report by Own Correspondent
Bulawayo City Council (BCC) had advised residents that there would be interruption of water supplies following a major maintenance work on the Insiza raw water pipeline.
The local authority also said the interruption could delay the resumption of water supply within stipulated shedding times and would affect the delivery of both raw and clean water.
Moyo said: “There are some people who are supposed to be getting water today (yesterday) in the morning. They will not be getting it as per shedding times because of these unplanned interruptions.
“We are telling them so that they can conserve the little water that they have until it is restored.”
He said for as long as the water situation in the city continued to worsen, BCC will carry on delivering water in bowsers to all parts of Bulawayo to ensure people have enough water to last them until the rains fall.

“Let us bear with the council until we receive sufficient rains. We will continue communicating with the people until the water situation stabilises,” the mayor said.
Yesterday’s water supply interruption came at a time BCC had increased water shedding times to 96 hours per week.
