HIGH Court judge Justice Chinembiri Bhunu yesterday indefinitely reserved judgment on a bail application by 26 MDC-T activists who have been in custody for over 17 months over the alleged murder of Police Inspector Petros Mutedza.

The court also at the same time reserved judgment on an application by prosecutor Edmore Nyazamba who wants one of the State witnesses in the matter, Edna Chihota, to give evidence in camera.
After both parties made submissions pertaining to the release of the MDC-T activists on bail, Justice Bhunu remanded the matter sine die, saying he needed time to consider the submissions and make an informed determination.
It is, however, most likely that the activists will spend the festive season in custody as the High Court term closed last Friday.
In her submissions, defence lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, who was assisted by Gift Mtisi, urged the court to consider granting her clients bail and afford them the opportunity to join their families during the festive season.

Mtetwa argued there were changed circumstances in that the High Court was most likely going to take a six-week break. The State, however, opposed the application arguing the suspects were unsuitable candidates for bail.
