THE festive season accident death toll rose to 219 yesterday with about a week left before the curtain comes down on the deadliest holidays in the country’s traffic history.

The entire holiday period begins on December 15 and runs through January 15.

National police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri said nine more people died in separate accidents that occurred in Masvingo, Manicaland and Mashonaland East province on Sunday.

“Our accident death toll is now at 219 after nine more people died in separate road accidents,” Phiri said.

“We have recorded 1 403 accidents, of which 119 of them were fatal accidents, which saw 1 084 people being injured.”
