A POLICE constable based in Nkayi, who allegedly beat up his boss last month accusing him of having an extra-marital affair with his wife, has been released on $100 bail.

Tinashe Munhamo (22) who is attached to the Nkayi Police Construction Section was not asked to plead to the assault charge when he appeared before Nkayi magistrate Ndumo Masuku yesterday.
Public prosecutor Maxwell Hapanyengwi told the court that on January 19, Munhamo accused his boss, the Officer-in-Charge Police Construction Section Inspector Newyear Rera (39) of having an affair with his wife.
That same night, Munhamo allegedly waylaid Rera as he walked back to the office at midnight and struck him with an unknown object, causing him to collapse.
Munhamo allegedly struck Rera’s left foot with a stone and sat on him threatening to stab him with a knife he was brandishing. But Rera managed to escape and fled to the office with Munhamo is hot pursuit.

Munhamo allegedly threatened to beat him up again, but was restrained by his colleagues who later detained him.
Rera sustained several injuries as a result of the alleged assault. However, Munhamo later fell ill while in police cells and was taken to Nkayi Hospital where he was admitted for two weeks.
He has since been discharged from hospital. The court remanded him to February 18 for trial.
