THREE people died while 17 others were critically injured when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in burst a tyre and rolled several times at the 65km peg along the Mutare-Juliasdale Road on Monday.

Assistant Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Muzondiwa Clean said the kombi had 20 passengers on board.

Police have appealed to the public to visit Nyanga District Hospital to assist in the identification of the deceased and injured from the fatal crash.

“The rear right tyre burst at about 65km peg along Mutare-Juliasdale Road and the vehicle veered off the road and overturned several times before landing on its right side.

“All the occupants of the omnibus were taken to Nyanga District Hospital where three of them were pronounced dead on admission,” he said. There have been several fatal accidents in Nyanga recently and police have blamed drivers of public transport for speeding in the treacherous mountainous area.
