MARONDERA — Eight members of the Cherutombo Rastafari House appeared at Marondera Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday facing charges of cultivating 82 plants of dagga at their shrine.

The eight — Douglas Zindoga (22), Calvin Katsinde (25), Denny Muzavazi (24), Kudzanai Nyatsime (22), Herbert Madore (30), Alexander Munyukwi (44), Blessing Ziyanga (33) and Tatadzeyi Muhlanganiso (23) – were all charged with contravening Section 157 (1) (c) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:33.

Public prosecutor Tariro Shirichena told the court that on the March 9, police at Marondra Central raided the suspects’ shrine following a tip off and recovered 82 plants of the banned drug at the site.

Magistrate Tinei Muchini granted them $30 bail each and remanded the case to May 23.
