PREPARATIONS for the national schools quiz tournament have gathered momentum with provincial finals slated for this month.

The contest will be launched by Book of African Records, a Zimbabwe-based project that collects and documents the greatest achievements by Africans and Africa.
Co-ordinating schools in all provinces will host provincial knockout sessions on June 29 ahead of national finals on August 3 and 4 in Harare.
The competition is open to Advanced Level students throughout the country.
Students from lower forms were also eligible to join the school teams.

Organisers of the contest said a school can only send one team and those successful at the provincial stage would make it to the national level.
The national finals would be broadcast on State broadcaster ZBC TV.
“The winning team from the national finals shall be granted scholarships to any State university of their choice by the Higher and Tertiary Education ministry secretary,” the organisers said.
“The first runner-up team, together with a representative of the school, would travel to Egypt for an educational trip while the second runner-up, together with a representative of the school, would travel to Victoria Falls.”
According to the quiz’s regulations, there would be questions in English Language and literature; history and geography; science and nature; arts, culture, religion and sports as well as general knowledge.
Book of African Records editor-in-chief Errol Muzawazi said the quiz tournament was an empowerment tool for the participants.
“The tournament is an empowering tool educationally, as it will not only inspire the youthful participants across the country to discover knowledge about their country and continent, but will prod them to take responsible action towards community development,” Muzawazi said.
