SIX MDC-T council elects have reportedly submitted their CVs to the party’s national executive for consideration for the post of Harare mayor.

Sources said the party’s deputy secretary general Tapiwa Mashakada recently told interested councilors to submit their papers.
Those reported to be interested in the post include outgoing mayor Muchadeyi Masunda, Chris Mbanga, a newly elected councillor for ward 8, former councillor Warship Dumba and Enock Mupamaonde, a lecturer with the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) who is councillor elect for Ward 35 in Mufakose. Also interested is Abisha Nyanguwo, a former staffer in the Prime Minister’s office.
Dumba yesterday confirmed that he had sent his CV to Mashakada’s office and was interested in the job.
“I have already submitted my CV and await to hear from the party leadership,” Dumba said.

At a meeting with outgoing Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Wednesday, the elected councillors said they did not want imposition of a mayor, saying there was need for a politically correct leader at town house.
“The PM was told of the need for Harare to have a “politically correct” mayor who would stand against Zanu PF functionaries at Town House who did not want to implement reforms agreed to,” said a source.
“The president said he will recommend names to the national executive.”
