CHIEF Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku yesterday granted Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke an order for his chamber application challenging his expulsion from Parliament, to be heard as urgent.

The matter will now be heard before a Supreme Court full bench next Wednesday (October 23).
Kereke, who was expelled from the House of Assembly, won the seat in the July 31 elections, beating MDC-T’s Heya Shoko and Zanu PF’s preferred candidate Elias Musakwa.
But, Zanu PF expelled him for defying a party directive to step down and give way to Musakwa in the polls.
Zanu PF wrote to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, disowning Kereke, resulting in the MP’s expulsion from Parliament and the declaration of the seat vacant, necessitating the holding of a by-election in the constituency.

Kereke then approached the Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging his expulsion.
He argued that the matter should be treated as urgent because the Bikita West constituency had already been declared vacant and a by-election could be called at any time.Kereke said he stood as an independent candidate and funded his July 31election campaign.
