A 27-YEAR-OLD woman, Rumbidzai Makumbe, from Gombakomba village in Zimunya, has lived with a rare skin disease called eczema since childhood.

She says the disease temporarily healed after she used a dermo cream sent to her by a relative based in the Diaspora, but it struck again after the cream ran out — leaving her skin crusty, scaled and itchy.
Makumbe is unemployed and lives with her brother who is also jobless.
The condition, also known as atopic dermatitis is a form of chronic inflammation of the skin.
Eczema is a broad term for a range of persistent skin conditions.

These include dryness and recurring skin rash that is characterised by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin edema (swelling), itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding.
Areas of temporary skin discoloration may appear and are sometimes due to healed injuries.
