A CHIMANIMANI businessman shot and seriously injured two men in a crossfire following a misunderstanding over unpaid salary with a former employee.

Jackson Muchini used his 12 bore caliber shotgun to fire shots at his former employee, missing him in the process and hitting the two complainants. One of the complainants suffered injuries on the left thigh while the other was shot on the left side of his hand and stomach. The two are recovering at Mutambara hospital, Chimanimani.
Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident adding that Muchini had been arrested and was assisting police with investigations.
“Joshua Chirongwe of Diriri village and a former barman approached the accused and asked for his unpaid salary. During that discussion, a misunderstanding arose while they were at the verandah. Muchini got inside the bottle store and withdrew a 12 bore caliber shotgun. On realising that the accused had armed himself with the gun, Chirongwe ran away,” Charamba said.
“The accused (Muchini) fired three shots towards him, but missed the target and in the process shot two other people who reported the matter.

“People should desist from violent tendencies and from using weapons unlawfully even if they are authorised to use weapons. One of the complainants was shot on his left thigh and the other one was shot on the left hand and left side of the stomach. The two are both at the Mutambara hospital. Accused was arrested and investigations are in process.”
The incident came at a time most companies were struggling to pay their workers on time amid warnings by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) of labour unrest if nothing is done to address the crisis. The MDC-T shadow cabinet last week also warned of labour unrest with party organising secretary and shadow Media minister Nelson Chamisa saying there was no “country with peace where there is no industrial peace”.
