Initially, Mbare magistrate Stanford Mambanje sentenced him to 36 months, but then suspended 12 months on condition of good behaviour.
Banda (23) was the ruling party’s political commissar for Herbert Chitepo district, Harare South.
Circumstances into the matter were that on July 7 last year at Southlea Park Shopping Centre, Banda confronted MDC-T activist Murambiwa Mudzamatira (45), and accused him of supporting an opposition party.
Banda then struck Mudzamatira with an empty beer bottle and open hands. As a result, Mudzamatira sustained injuries on his face, teeth as well as on his back.
