Zec chairperson Justice Rita Makarau confirmed Sekeramayi’s death yesterday, but could not give details saying they were still preparing a Press statement.

Although circumstances leading to his death were sketchy last night, sources at Zec said Sekeramayi was found dead in his hotel room in Mauritius yesterday morning where was attending a meeting of Sadc chief elections officers.
Sekeramayi’s death comes two months after the commission lost another top-ranking official, Shupikai Mashereni, who was director of public relations at Zec. Sekeramayi, a former member of the Central Intelligence Organisation which falls under the President’s Office, presided over the highly disputed March 2008 elections.
