FORMER Air Zimbabwe bosses, Nicholas Mavhunga and Grace Nyaradzai Pfumbidzai, who were being accused of swindling the airline of over $8 million in an alleged insurance fraud scam, were yesterday removed from remand after their trial failed to kick off as planned.

Regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya refused to further remand the pair after the State failed to supply the defence with State papers to enable the latter to prepare for their defence.
The State will have to proceed by way of summons if it decides to prosecute the pair.
The reason for the State’s failure to provide the defence with the State papers was that the police were still investigating the matter and the docket was yet to be completed.
Mavhunga and Pfumbidzai had been accused of acting in connivance with Navistar Insurance bosses Givemore Nderere, Vukile Hlupo and Orten Mawire, in a matter where they swindled the airline of millions of dollars through inflated aviation insurance premiums.

They had all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Pfumbidzai was represented by Andrew Muvirimi while Mavhunga was represented by Ticha Garabga.
