HARARE Municipality has been summoned to appear in Parliament today to be quizzed over the feasibility of its programme to decongest the city by confining commuter omnibuses in holding bays.

According to Parliament’s schedule of committee meetings, the head of municipal police and director of works in the City of Harare are set to appear before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Local Government, Rural and Urban Development chaired by Mutasa South MP Irene Zindi (Zanu PF).
The oral evidence that the committee will gather from the council officials is on progress made in decongesting the city areas around Copacabana rank since the operationalisation of the Coventry Road holding bay.
The Environmental Management Authority is also set to appear before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment to speak on environmental degradation in Chisumbanje.
The committee, chaired by Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Zanu PF), in July made a fact-finding visit to Chisumbanje where villagers complained of massive pollution of the environment and water sources by ethanol producer Green Fuel.

Meanwhile, the Finance and Economic Development portfolio committee yesterday launched public hearings on the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (Debt Assumption) Bill which seeks to enable government to take over the $1, 3 billion RBZ debts.
