HARARE City Councillors have threatened to boycott meetings if they are not given iPads as promised amid growing concerns of the failure by management to implement several resolutions.

According to the Information and Publicity committee, councillors made several resolutions that were yet to be implemented with the issue of Apple tablets being one of them.
“Arising from the previous minutes, the committee discussed the matter stressing that, in future; it would not sit to consider a new agenda before implementation of earlier resolutions. It reiterated that resolutions relating to purchase of iPads and proposed in-house publication of council’s own newsletter ought to have been implemented,” minutes of the committee reads.
Councillors who were yet to receive iPads complained and sought for an update on the matter.
The threat has, however, angered residents who felt that the MDC-T dominated council was not prioritising issues of service delivery, but was at town house for self-aggrandisement.

Residents groups yesterday criticised failure by council to prioritise issues affecting the people and their concentration on personal items.
Combined Harare Residents’ Association (CHRA) chairman Simbarashe Moyo said it was shocking that councillors were threatening such action.
“I am shocked if they want to boycott meetings over that. They didn’t do that when there was a resolution on the management bias and when there were calls for town clerk Tendai Mahachi to go,” Moyo said.
“There are our representatives, our servants who should represent our grievances. If they want that, it’s sad and worrying. We then wonder whether we have people representing us as residents or we have a group of residents who gather at town house to discuss personal issues.”
