Baba Jukwa suspect, Edmund Kudzayi had his bail conditions slightly relaxed on Friday, after Harare magistrate, Tendai Mahwe ordered the release of his passport, albeit briefly.

Through his lawyer, Admire Rubaya, Sunday Mail editor, Kudzayi told the court that his employer, Zimpapers had requested he attend the World Newspaper Congress from June 1 to June 3 2015 in the United States of America.

“I am aware that my client is to appear in court on May 29, but right now we apply for the release of the passport, which has already expired,” he said.

“He needs to be in the possession of the same so that he can apply for another one and be able to travel to USA.”

Rubaya highlighted that Kudzai also needed the passport so that he can apply for a visa.

In his ruling, Mahwe said Kudzayi should provide proof of appointment to attend the congress and should return the new passport on June 10 2015.

Rubaya had requested that the Sunday Mail editor return his passport on June 30.

Kudzayi was arrested last year on allegations that he was behind the shadowy Facebook character, Baba Jukwa.

He denies the charges.
