GOVERNMENT yesterday rallied behind the ongoing water cuts being carried out by the Harare City Council saying residents must pay for services rendered if they wanted quality services from local authorities.

Addressing journalists in Harare, Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere said: “What I want to urge residents to do is that they must meet council halfway. We understand that water is a human right, but the responsibility is on both council and residents.

“Council does not operate in a vacuum, it is a community organisation.”

He said council had to meet the costs of water purification and ensure that all services were provided for.
