FORMER Zimbabwe national goalkeeper and Dynamos assistant coach Gift “Umbro” Muzadzi has terminated his 16-year-old marriage with his wife, Makaita Angelina Muzadzi citing irreconcilable differences between the two.

An application for divorce was filed by Muzadzi’s wife, nee Mawushe, sometime in March 2013 and the matter was heard by High Court judge Justice Hlekani Mwayera on Wednesday this week and the footballer did not oppose the application.

In her declaration forming part of the court papers, Mawushe, said she married the Glamour Boys goalkeeper’s coach in December 1999, but they had been living separately since 2010.

“The marriage has irretrievably broken down to such an extent that there is no reasonable prospect for restoration of a normal marital relationship in that: the plaintiff [Mawushe] has lost trust in the defendant [Muzadzi], the parties have been living apart since February 2010 and in the circumstances, the plaintiff has lost all love and affection for the defendant,” Mawushe said.

She further told the court that during the subsistence of their marriage, the couple sired two children aged 10 and 18.

“It would be in the best interests of the minor child if I am awarded custody of the child with the defendant exercising rights of access during alternate weekends during school days and for two weeks of every school holidays,” Mawushe said, while making an application for custody of her minor child.

“The defendant shall also contribute $100 for the minor child’s maintenance until the child reaches 18 or becomes self-supportive, whichever occurs first.”

In respect of the property, Mawushe proposed Muzadzi would retain all movable properties while she retained stand number 6205 situated in Budiriro 5, Harare which she acquired before getting married to the footballer.

“The defendant did not enter an appearance to defend as required by the rules of the court. The defendant has failed to file his plea and thus is barred,” she said.
