THE Community Water Alliance (CWA) has launched a programme to provide communities with water to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through regular hand washing.

CWA spokesperson Christopher Gohori yesterday told NewsDay that the organisation was complementing local authorities throughout the country in delivering water to communities in need by establishing solar-powered public water points.

Gohori said the programme was being implemented in partnership with Oxfam, United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund and GIZ.

“Solidarity was offered after water point committees raised concern on the rising COVID-19 cases and the possibility of infections at water points,” he said.

Gohori said some water collectors tested positive to the respiratory virus, adding that community-based disease surveillance was urgently needed.
