HARARE CITY Council is excited after participating at the next generation Taekwondo Championships in Eswatini this week claiming it was part of promoting mental and physical health.
The Harare City Council Martial Arts Club took part at the annual inter-club championship at an event that was hosted at Matsapha UNESWA Sports Emporium.
The next generation Taekwondo often refers to regional and academic led tournaments designed for developing athletes,
Over 400 local and international athletes registered for the annual interclub event which was set from 5 to 7 of this month.
Competitors came from Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa and Eswatini.
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art focused on kicking, martial art focused on kicking and punching. It includes patterns called poomsae , board breaking gyekpa and Olympic style sparring called kyorugi.
Harare City Council Chief Traffic officer boss Martin Chimombe who led the team to Eswatini was full of praise for the team.
“Harare City Martial Club is a sporting institution under the City of Harare and we came yesterday from Eswatini where we were participating at the next generation Taekwondo championship and we did very well and we managed one gold, one silver and five bronze
“The club’s main endeavour is to promote the development of martial arts and Taekwondo as a way of life and a tool for personal growth in all age groups throughout the whole city as Harare City Council we are competitive, Resilient and Persevere,” he said
“Harare City Martial Arts instructors act as positive role models to all athletes , teaching essential skills, life skills, self-control and perseverance. The club has improved the overall wellbeing of the young people , community by promoting mental resilience and stress management hence abstaining from drug and substance abuse
