HARARE, May 12, 2026 (NewsDay) — The Zimbabwe Republic Police has dismissed as fake a circulating press statement claiming to provide updates on alleged assailants linked to lawyer and politician Douglas Coltart.
Police said the document, dated May 11, 2026, was not issued by the ZRP and warned the public against sharing fabricated statements masquerading as official communication.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has not issued any official press statement regarding updates on the alleged assailants of Douglas Coltart,” police said.
Authorities said investigations were underway to identify those responsible for creating and distributing the fake statement, which contained inflammatory allegations tied to the case.

Police urged the public to rely only on verified ZRP communication channels for information on criminal investigations and security matters.
