HARARE, May 5 (NewsDay Live) - Fourteen people died Tuesday afternoon when a Malawi-bound bus was involved in an accident in Mutoko, according to the police.
In a statement, the police said the accident occurred at the 176-km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway near Suswe.
“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred this afternoon at 176 km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda Road near Suswe,” the police statement read.
“A Malawi-bound BRD Luxury Coach bus, which was coming from Cape Town, South Africa, had an accident near Suswe at around 1300 hours.
“Initial police attended at the scene indicated that 14 people died.”
The bus was reportedly carrying 63 passengers and some of the injured victims were taken to Mutoko District Hospital and Kotwa District Hospital.
