A 22-year-old woman from Nkulumane has died following a brutal assault allegedly carried out by her husband.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Francis Lunga (36).
Msebele said the incident occurred on April 4, 2026, at around 1500 hours.
“Lunga reportedly returned from a work-related trip to South Africa and found a message on his wife’s phone from an unsaved number,” she said.
She added that an altercation over the message ensued, during which Lunga allegedly attacked his wife, Sithandwenkosi Kunetha, with a spanner and an unidentified object, inflicting severe injuries.
“She was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. This is a tragedy that underscores the devastating effects of domestic violence,” Msebele said.

Msebele noted that a similar case was reported last week in Lovingdale, where a man allegedly fatally assaulted his wife over a phone-related dispute.
“Violence of this nature is unacceptable. Communities must resolve conflicts through dialogue and seek help from family elders, church leaders, residents’ associations or police Community Relations and Liaison Officers,” she said.
