In a statement released Tuesday, national police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said Munyanyi was apprehended late Monday afternoon in the Nyika Area of Bikita, where he had been hiding. The arrest was carried out by members of the public working in coordination with the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

Authorities also confirmed that the firearm allegedly used in the murders has been recovered.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the people in Nyika for working together with the police to effect the arrest,” the statement read, adding that further details would be released in due course.

Munyanyi, of Ndume Village under Chief Ndanga in Zaka, had been on the run following the fatal shooting of two detectives in the early hours of March 1.
