THE government has called on women in tourism to attend and actively participate in high-level meetings set for Victoria Falls in April.
The meetings, to be hosted in Zimbabwe, include the 23rd United Nations Committee on Tourism and Sustainability (CTS), from April 27 to 28; the CTS-linked Pilot Capacity-Building Workshop, from April 28 to 29, 2026; and the 2nd United Nations Tourism Regional Congress on Women Empowerment in Tourism in Africa, from April 29 to May 1.
Addressing journalists during post-Cabinet briefing yesterday, Tourism and Hospitality Industry minister Barbara Rwodzi said the events were expected to attract about 1 500 international experts from various sectors.
“We have experts coming from different fields — not just tourism, but also academia, research institutions, and financial institutions — as well as women actively working across the tourism sector on the continent,” Rwodzi said.
Hosting these three major United Nations events is both a political and diplomatic milestone for Zimbabwe. The selection underscores the country’s growing importance in international tourism, highlights its commitment to women’s empowerment and strengthens its reputation as a hub for sustainable development in Africa.
Rwodzi said: “For the United Nations to choose Zimbabwe to host these very important three events is a huge endorsement politically and diplomatically.”
