A 43-YEAR-OLD Harare woman appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo yesterday, facing allegations of unlawful possession of ammunition.

Annamarie Louise Bertram was arrested on November 29 this year and released on US$100 bail.

She was ordered to continue residing at her given address and not to interfere with State witnesses.

According to the State, a security officer, Simbarashe Chitabura, was on duty at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport when Bertram placed her bag on the luggage scanner while preparing to board a flight to Cape Town, South Africa, on November 29.

The scanner reportedly detected metallic objects, prompting a physical search. Chitabura allegedly recovered three live rounds of ammunition and five bullet heads concealed inside a small Smarties sweet tube.

The items have since been submitted for forensic examination.

The court heard that the results can establish a link to serious offences committed by Bertram, thus presenting irrefutable evidence, which incentives her to abscond and evade trial.
