THE 14th edition of Bulawayo’s premier arts fete Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo, running under the theme Realities and Experiences, kicks off today with a play titled Bloom Bloom at the Bulawayo Theatre.

The Umkhathi Theatre production serves as the festival appetiser before other activities are showcased at other venues acrosstown during the week.
“Umkhathi’s play — Bloom Bloom — will break the ice tomorrow then other events follow. We urge arts lovers to come and support us,” festival director Raisedon Baya said yesterday.
He said there would be a schools poetry workshop and schools theatre at the Bulawayo theatre on Wednesday, followed by a dialogue titled Women in Arts on Thursday, with the exciting Women, Wine and Words at the Bulawayo Art Gallery as the highlight.
Baya said another show, Journey of Nobuntu, is a “must-catch show” on Friday, where the all-female Imbube ensemble will dare their male counterparts Black Umfolosi in a rare stage performance that is set to give life to the festival.

Another show to look out for on Friday is the Comedy Gig, which will feature Nceku, MaForty and T1nda, Clive Chigubhu, Prosper the Comic Pastor and Zwexy Mackena.
The second comedy night will be hosted on Saturday, with the poignant Gukurahundi play 1983 — Dark Years by Jahunda Arts as the highlight. Journalist Zenzele Ndebele will showcase his documentary titled Gukurahundi.
Umcimbi Wabantu, an annual gig which celebrates Bulawayo’s first commercial radio station Skyz Metro FM’s anniversary, will bring down the fiesta.
This year’s edition, which will be hosted at the Large City hall car park, will feature celebrated South African group Soul Brothers and Bulawayo’s finest Jeys Marabini, Zinja Ziyamluma, Clement Magwaza and Madlela Skhobokobo.
