Nyambi Stars beat nine other groups at the Chibuku Road to Fame Bulawayo provincial finals on Saturday afternoon to book a place at the national finals to be held in Harare in September. Each group was tasked to perform four songs and Nyambi Stars impressed the judges with their outstanding performance.

The five-member band put up a spirited performance and got the audience dancing to their own version of the popular gospel song John. Their pint-sized lead singer and dancer was a marvel to watch showing spectacular dance routines.

African Tribe who won in last year’s provincial contest came out second. The group demonstrated it still has great potential through some impressive songs that were mainly a fusion of afro-jazz and traditional music.

On third position was seven-member group, Out Boys, whose music is similar to South Africa-based Ndolwane Super Sounds.

Bulawayo Province last won Chibuku Road to Fame national finals in 2006 and organisers of the event said they hoped the group would represent the province in a big way and possibly clinch this year’s title.

“We hope that Nyambi Stars will do us proud in the finals. They are a good group and they have shown that they can stand the heat,” said National Arts Council of Zimbabwe provincial programmes officer William Nyandoro.
