In a unique but thrilling encounter in Mutare, 13 primary schools battled for top honour’s in the Early Childhood Development (ECD) national anthem singing competition held at Mutare Hall last week Thursday.
The winner of the day, Murahwa Primary, received learning material to help with child development. ECD is comprised of children averaging the age of 4-5 years.
The colourful singing competition was sponsored by Eastern Parts in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture.
Clever Chiturumani, the provincial education inspector, said the competition was meant to boost the monors’ confidence.
“We hope to reinforce confidence and exposure in young children. This will go a long way in preparing them for the life ahead. The country is looking upon them to be future leaders, therefore they need proper grooming,” he said.
He added the competition would help the Ministry of Education to regain the lost glory of the education system.

“We are building a strong foundation capable of moving the country ahead. This starts with small competitions like these. I hope children will learn to compete from a tender age,” said the provincial education inspector.
Parents who attended the competition thanked the organisers for their effort in building a competitive foundation in children.
“The children will gain the confidence to talk in front of many people. By singing the national anthem they will appreciate their country and probably start thinking positively, so they will make a significant contribution towards nation building,” said Robert Mapako.
