Music Promoter Patson “Chipaz” Chimbodza has vowed to continue supporting his late friend Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo’s musician son, Peter “Dhewa” Moyo, who has been doing a great job of following in his father’s footsteps since his death last year.
As a sign of loyalty to his own vow Chimbodza will on Friday at his Greencroft-based club, Plaza De Castilla, host a special dedication show where the “Young Igwe” will perform alongside upcoming sungura artiste Romeo Gasa.
“I vowed to the public during the launch of The Show Goes on, a documentary on the late Tongai Moyo’s cancer battle, that I would unconditionally support Peter if he was to follow in his father’s footsteps,” said Chimbodza.
Chimbodza said he had made it clear to the “Young Igwe” that no one in the world would ever replace his late father.
He said he was impressed by the way Peter has managed to fill his father’s big shoes as leader of Utakataka Express.
“I will stick to my words and now I can safely say the ‘Young Igwe’ is on the right track as I have made efforts to travel to Kwekwe and attend some of his rehearsal sessions which have totally impressed me,” Chimbodza said.

He said he was mostly impressed by Peter’s dedication to continuing with the legacy that Dhewa left prematurely due to illness and he was happy that Utakataka would survive as long as Peter was there.
He said the dedication show was to thank Moyo for a job well done and to encourage him to stay strong as there were many challenges in the industry, but he was a big machine “Muchina Muhombe” like his late father.
“Peter and I have become very good friends and I am happy to be performing with him on Friday hoping that we will unite as artistes as we are the next big thing in sungura,” said Gasa
He said he had performed several times with Moyo and had been overwhelmed by the support they had received from people.
“Chipaz and my dad were best friends. He was his pillar through thick and thin and I am so happy and honoured that he has also found a place in his heart to love me too,” said Moyo.
He said he was grateful to have Chipaz’s support as he always chipped in whenever he needed help in his rising career as a musician. Moyo said Utakataka Express would deliver a polished act to revellers and their support was important to keep the band going.
