South African stand-up comedian Al Prodgers is in the country for shows at Reps Theatre from tonight to Friday.
An official from Reps Theatre confirmed Prodgers’ visit.
“He will stage shows from tomorrow night (tonight) up to Friday. He is a talented comedian who has a lot of fans here and his presence is of great importance,” said the official.
With his uncompromising delivery and courageous approach to taboos, Al Prodgers is often labelled as a “dangerous” comic, although he’s just as hysterical when musing whimsically about drug-sniffer dogs or bemoaning his untimely receding hairline.
His natural ability to read a crowd’s mood and in turn adapt, leaves no room for doubt as to why his incisive, intelligent wit is as popular with ultra-conservative grannies as it is with serious student types.
Prodgers’ incredible versatility and adaptive humour has helped cement him as a sought-after talent.

Prodgers ditched “serious” acting for stand-up comedy in 1996. Since then, he has become a regular performer in the Smirnoff International Comedy Festival.
He has pulled off two highly successful solo shows at the Grahamstown Festival and has appeared on many television stand-up shows, including The Barry Hilton Show and Comedy Showcase.
He is also a popular regular on the club and corporate circuit, having performed in Windhoek, Namibia.
His fiery intelligence makes him one of the hottest players in the impoverished comedy sensation Improv Express which is completely mad up (filled with skill) at every show.
When legendary US comedian Steve Wright toured South Africain in 1999, Prodgers was the obvious choice to open for him, performing in front of 2 000 people in Cape Town.
