NATIONAL Gallery of Zimbabwe (NGZ) in Bulawayo has urged resident and non-resident artists, especially females, to apply in their numbers for next year’s studio space at the institution to enhance their participation in the visual arts value chain.

NGZ in Bulawayo acting regional director Silenkosi Moyo told NewsDay Life & Style yesterday that the deadline for applications was November 30 and successful applicants would be contacted on December 7.

“The gallery is accepting studio applications for the year 2022 from current resident and non-resident artists. We are encouraging female artists to apply in numbers as our internal records show a low uptake of studio space by female artists,” she said.

“This is one way of empowering female artists by offering central, affordable, safe and friendly work spaces in the gallery.”

Moyo said all visual artists could apply for the studio space.

“November 30 is the deadline for applications so as to allow the selection team to do a proper job and come up with a representative pool of resident artists,” she said.

“By default, it is centralised to Bulawayo due to accommodation issues. Artists from outside Bulawayo have to fund their own stay. All contracts are six months long and renewable subject to lease terms.”
